I am fairly convinced that Labour will not keep the hard right away from power. So that kind of freed me up, in a strange way.

I have become a member of the Green Party.

@Remittancegirl I’m sure others in your circle respect your choices and could follow your lead, simply based on trust. Isn’t this how movements start?

@rgarner It was a strange break for me. I was a lifelong (and I'm old) member of the Labour party.

@Remittancegirl I haven't been a member of any party before this. I campaigned for/with my current (Labour) MP in 2017 because he's a good representative but the national Labour party I have few ties with except friends

@CAWguy I don't need anyone to follow my lead. I don't think actual membership in a political party is all that important for most people.

I just wanted to make a statement with what appears to be the only thing that has value anymore - my wallet and my statistic.

@rgarner Hehe. I was a seriously involved member whenever I was actually living in the UK. I went to all the constituency meetings, I campaigned, I stuffed envelopes and mail slots.

Admittedly, I was always further to the left that most of people I worked with. But needs must.

Anyway, I just got tired of waiting for the party to come to its senses and stop competing with Tories to demonise immigrants.

@rgarner Admittedly, I am and always have been ecologically concerned, but I never felt it was the entirety of my political orientation. The Green Party has become broader, too.

@Remittancegirl Maybe you don’t need others to follow, but I respect your words, so if I were on the fence about this choice, I’d be happy to jump to your side. I do understand your point though.

@Remittancegirl the ecological parts are by necessity going to become defaults. Even if only by watching China roar away on renewables...

@rgarner THis is so true. It will, I'm sure, in the very near future, take up an enormous part of the political bandwidth as climate change worsens

@Remittancegirl I rode 10,000Km last year. Each year, I snorkel in Marathon Bay. In all the places I'm out and looking, life is receding quite noticeably. People are choosing not to see.
