    Low expectations.

    I've now been asked on three separate occasions if I'd like a job here.

    My current working theory (yes I did that on purpose) is that they think I'll work cheap. What they don't realize is, I'd also work poorly.

      Chances are, that would also be true of your competition! There's definitely something to be said for p/t retirement jobs. It offers structure to one's life, as well as money for splurges that one wants to make. It's possible that the work itself and one's coworkers will be tolerable or even pleasant.
