@georgetakei In fairness: If you are minister of energy, and you are asked a question about a vaccine, the correct answer is "I am unfamiliar with that" since it isn't your job to delal with the issue.
It isn't Bessent's job to critique the pardons Trump gave after receiving sufficiently large payment for the service. He is not part of "Justice". But Pam Bondi would be in a position where her job includes jurisdiction over pardons.
However, for elected critters in House and Senate, it is their job to critique it. (and impeach Trump for all the business he conducts personally using the office of the president). As the House does nothing, it MUST be concluded that Congress approves of Trump's business practices at 1600 Pennsylvania.

That's why the next statement needs to be, "Can you become familiar with that, because when we call you in again *later this week*, we'll expect an answer."
Accepting this kind of deflection as the end of the questioning on it, is why they can get away with it.
