    What’s with all the grey cars and trucks lately? Why would anyone deliberately spend that much money to buy a vehicle that is nearly invisible in low-light conditions? Is this evidence of a death wish, or just another manifestation of the millennial grey fashion meme in clothes and interior decorating? Disclosure: my car is orange—highly visible. Official Subaru marketing name: Sunshine Orange. My unofficial name for it: Orange Sunshine, to commemorate some fun times in my youth.

      @qurlyjoe The modern LED street lamps don't help with visibility. Even bright colours don't reflect the light cast by them.

        @qurlyjoe When I was working partime in high school one of the store managers had a pumpkin orange 911. We used to give him a hard time about it, but now I think it was an awesome color choice.

          @qurlyjoe In low visibility conditions, IME paint colour makes no difference, only lights/reflectors do.

          I bought a grey car at one point because I liked the way it looked more than the alternatives. This was back when colours were *available* - now dealerships don't seem to stock much other than white/grey/black. I recall hearing somewhere that colour hurts resale value - many people will put up with neutral vehicles even if they don't love them, but not with a colour they dislike, I guess.

            @BackFromTheDud
            It stands out in a parking lot, day or night as long as there is some light. Makes it easy to find. Unless it's behind a bunch of oversized pickups of course.

              @eishiya
              Dealers always charge a premium for red new cars, IME, but when I drive around it's easy to see all the other (about 15-20 by my haphazard counting) orange Subies in town. Sometimes we'll wave at each other as we pass. I get compliments from strangers on it. Just last week I came out of the grocery store and a woman sitting in the car next to our rolled down her window just to say she liked the color. The minor downside is that people assume I'm a Broncos fan.

                @qurlyjoe Mine is grey brown right now but this colour comes courtesy of the spray from the road salt.
                If washed it will turn to the same impossible-to-find-in-a-parking-lot black as all of the other SUVs sold that year.
