Other half is reading a book where the main character can view a recently deceased person's lifeI remember something similar - seeing someone's final moments through their eyes (but it not always going 100% right?) and using it to solve crimes and such - from a TV series/film... Or maybe another book?
But I'm just not able to remember the character/thing I saw.
Friends have made several suggestions, mostly stuff I haven't seen.Any ideas?

#TV #bookstodon #movies #tropes@noodlemaz The Witness for the Dead by Katherine Addison? Fabulous book. Thinking about it, that may even be the book your other half is reading

@murbs it is indeed! He's just on the second one now
-
@mjack not seen it!

@noodlemaz not someone seeing through their eyes, but Pushing Daisies is about a Pastry Chef who can bring the dead back to life for a minute, questions them and solves murders, but it's very slapstick. Was an enjoyable watch, fairly wholesome, remember watching it with my best friend while snuggled up under some blankets after long uni days. I'm case you're looking for something with those vibes to watch
@Timo_Micro really just irritated I couldn't place the thing..!
Might've been Angel (the Buffy spin-off) -

#TV #bookstodon #movies #tropes@noodlemaz I'm vaguely getting something, but not quite recalling. Was there a specific point that they could see what the deceased saw, but if they had their eyes closed or if it was from behind them or etc they wouldn't be able to see it and something took advantage of that? (Maybe even a main character taking advantage?)
There's just something on the tip of my brain so to speak, but today is a bad brainfog day so that's not helping.

A useful starting point might be here:
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EyeRemember
There's a link there to the Wikipedia entry on Optography which might help as well.
@neonbubble not so much literally stored in the eyes. More a memory/soul access thing with POV
Looked through all those, only things I've seen are Fringe/b5/Trek but in my fuzzy memory it's a recurring thingSo frustrating! Might have dreamed it

@miriamrobern not seen it!

@nazokiyoubinbou yeah that sounds vaguely familiar too, like sometimes it didn't work for them, and obviously you can't move the POV, it's not yours, they're already dead etc
Some conditions that meant it might not work at all for other reasons
It's so odd, like I'm both sure I've seen/read it but also like I've made it up

@noodlemaz For some reason I'm thinking Asimov (or one of those later authors who wrote in the same universe,) but I'm not sure that makes sense.
I'm trying to come up with something, but my brain is just too fuzzy today. I don't think it's going to happen.

I really suspect we're thinking of the same thing though.

@nazokiyoubinbou ooh maybe

#TV #bookstodon #movies #tropes@noodlemaz There was a scene in Wild Wild West where supposedly the last moment a person saw was etched into their eye and so one of the main characters attaches the skull of the victim to a lantern and projects it.

@BasiliskXVIII yeah not a physical eye inscription thing, a memory/'soul' POV glimpse

Possibly Tru Calling?

Eliza Dushku was in Buffy for a while which might be why the suggestion of Angel is familiar.. -
