@rayckeith @falcennial This is one of those things that many, MANY Americans will always be against, despite it benefiting the working class directly, entirely because the term β€œsocialism” has been so vigorously demonized there.

@rayckeith That's why german government plans to take away the last bits of safety net rn. They don't want their population free, they want their population desperate. So desperate that they take even the most disgustingly underpaid jobs.

@rayckeith who specifically said safety nets make people stop trying? if you bring them to my garage I can fix their lying problem in 5 minutes, guaranteed.

Most of the USA. large parts of Canada. Even the poor. It is pathetically sad.

@rayckeith Exactly. A safety net just means that if you fall off the tightrope, you won't die. It doesn't mean you're going to stay in the net forever. And even in the rare occasions where people just give up and live off the safety net, that's still better than having destitute people in your communities.

@rayckeith You think American business owners want those things for their workers?

@rayckeith@techhub.social No wonder corporate-owned America hates the idea.

@reay @rayckeith @falcennial Tiny Norway has the largest sovereign wealth fund, it is a creditor nation. The future is with countries where the focus is on what actually works economically for the commons rather than perpetuating loyalty to dogmas that do not.

@rayckeith I would love to live in a society with strong and unconditional safety nets for everyone. Germany used to have a decent (not good, just decent) safety net some decades ago. Alas, I fear it's not that decision-makers around the world today don't understand what safety nets would accomplish. It's rather that they want only specific, selected people to have them.
