I am attempting to hack this ebike motor to bypass all the proprietary stuff and what I'm seeing so far is encouraging
-
@Stellar Yep! Some motors will have their own internal controller stuff and you don't get the hall wires or phases broken out. That wasn't the case this time. The motor is running now
@MLE_online@social.afront.org oh this is amazing

I just love the Dr. Emmett Brown lab organization. The same school to which I subscribe. -

I did it!! I hacked the e-bike motor!
It's only running off of 36 volts here rather than the 48 it's designed for because i don't have a generic 48v controller, so it's going slower than it should, but it works.
Now that I know this is possible, I will go ahead and order a 48 volt controller and a 48v BMS for rebuilding the battery pack
@MLE_online
What will you do with your hacked e-bike motor? -

What will you do with your hacked e-bike motor?@kete Use it to get this ebike working again

@20002ist I think it's more fun if I leave that to your imagination
@MLE_online <Foley catheter has entered the, uh, never mind>

@MLE_online That's cool!

Even if this bike had worked, I probably would have done this anyway because this bike was designed to be controlled with an app on your phone and I'm not about having to use apps to use other things.
I am freeing this bike from the prison of surveillance capitalism

@MLE_online Way to go, this is so cool. Thank you for posting this series. I'm excited to see how the battery rebuild goes with the new BMS.

This is pretty great. Are you gonna write up your method? Or is it peculiar to the one design?

@MLE_online doing godβs work

@tomjennings I think it would vary from design to design, but there are some general principles. This one actually turned out to be much simpler than I was expecting. It was just a matter of finding the hall effect sensor wires and the phase wires and getting them connected to the controller correctly.

I need to buy parts from AliExpress. The scotus ruling on tariffs came just in time

@MLE_online it doesnβt do anything about de minimis or postage prices. I hope at least theyβll implement the lower tariff quickly.

@MLE_online I've been holding off on designing/ordering PCBs for the same reason.
