I’m a very very old “millennial” or a very very young gen X— not shocked by these results though.
@futurebird @thordis i think we're born in the same year or at least within 1 year of each other, which means most people i've seen born 2-3 years before us who talk about the x/y boundary tend to identify either as millennials or xennials... -

Edit - I should explain. I wasn't trying to be trite about your situation at all even though it looks like I clearly am in retrospect. That was more pointing out how generational wealth breeds the inability to notice others struggles. If you always have a banana stand in your family, you don't have to worry about the day-to-day of people without a banana stand

First I have to survive. I have lost my job *again*, at the worst possible time *again*. I have no savings, because I used them all up last time I was laid off, and didn't get the chance to build them back up. I don't even know how I'm going to feed my kids tonight. And the job market is *destroyed* for people in my field. (Non-LLM machine learning) Add the tariffs and the oncoming economic downturn they're projecting, and we are screwed.

@thordis Is it the new horoscope? I never thought hard about this and mostly ignored a psychology teacher that tried to teach this. I don't have any idea of my "sign".
Edit: I mean that the idea of using a US-focused terminology (e.g. the huge "baby boomers" post-war baby surge didn't happen here, as we weren't as involved in the war as the USA was — and I even checked data for that!) makes it look like a horoscope to me rather than a serious thing.

@Clem @szczurtorebkowy @thordis I don't feel lucky. I feel like I'm watching all my hopes and dreams be torn down for good, just as they were about to finally be within reach. The stuff I worked toward my whole life... I worked toward it for nothing. All the angst, trying to be good enough for my parents and then my children, only to find out it was pointless because it doesn't matter what I do or did. The world has turned to a giant dumpster fire, and I don't know how we will ever climb out of it.

I an feeling I never even got the chance in the first place. Graduated in 2009. Zero jobs my entire life. Felt like I crawled out from this mentally ill hole I fell in and now well im yeah deeply feeling we have lost everything. Im autistic… was a special ed kid who benefitted a lot from changing policy allowing me into mainstream classes and required I have a qualified teacher and nothing much since.

My instance has (had?) the option to post instance only, I haven't seen it be used much.
The forkiverse was started by some podcasters, which helps explain it exploding in a few days (with 6.9k users, it's the 20th biggest server on fedidb. The launching podcast episode was released Jan 9th). I think it refers to forking social media in general. They said on the podcast it's hosted on masto.host, so I assume it's running vanilla mastodon.
