    Grumble, grumble. Folks keep boosting photographers who never use alt text into my timeline, and I keep blocking those accounts. I don’t care how great their photos are if they can’t be bothered to write alt text.

    There are plenty of other fantastic photographers who aren’t so inconsiderate.

      @jeridansky

      Most photos published don't have metadata details apart from the camera, like shutter speed etc embedded.

      It is easy to download pics from the posts.

      Might be a step too far, but It would be good if people took the extra step and added their names at a minimum, maybe a date and location, just in case someone would need to attribute the creator, or ask to use the pic?

      Quick search found this:

        @jeridansky

        Yeah, I try to make a point of only boosting pics with alt text.

        I'm sure a few without it get through, but I think if I like a picture, everyone should be able to enjoy it.

          @jeridansky It is a fine line to encourage alt text without being counterproductively scoldy about it. But I do value the alt text. Especially when I'm on a slow connection (like, most of the time out of the home/office) and I use it to decide whether to load the image.

            @soaproot When I see a new person not using alt text, and I get the feeling they might be receptive to a suggestion, I send a DM suggesting (not demanding) alt text, with quotes from two people explaining how much it means to them. This has been pretty well received. Sometimes they just don't know!

            For old timers, I just block. (This assumes it's not someone using the alt4me hashtag or otherwise indicating a disability which might impede using alt text.)
