Sorting your (filtered) feed in reverse chronological order is VERY MUCH an algorithm. (Supported by thousands more under the hood.)
Algorithm is a GOOD word. Algorithms help us process and make sense of vast amounts of data. If anything I want more sophisticated ones.
The problem with those on other platforms is that they're optimized to exploit and predate on us and not under our control.

But on a more serious note, people do tend to have a negative understanding of the world algorithm these days, and it's hard to fight the meaning that the majority gives to a word. -
