Uh oh.

Uh oh. The weather guy just used the word "bad" maybe half a dozen times. He was walking around outside. "Bad news, y'all...it's not sleet anymore... it's straight up freezing rain... It's bad... It's heavy... Look at that, it's straight up freezing rain... It's gonna accumulate fast... This is bad..." etc.
I had been thinking maybe we lucked out because there's only been a little snow so far and occasionally I've heard the tapping of sleet against the window. But the weather guy seems alarmed by the shift to freezing rain.

I've never seen freezing rain, but we were once cabin-camping in a State Park (in WA). During our stay, the forecast changed from snow to freezing rain and the ranger came to tell us all to leave ASAP due to the very high likelihood of power outages. She was the same.. "this is bad, look at that forecast, it's just bad.. etc". We left, and the freezing rain ended up being just rain, so I don't know.
I hope all goes the best possible in your area!

@tc_morekindness From what I've heard, it seems that freezing rain is what takes down trees and power lines.
So glad you still have power, and I'm crossing my fingers that continues.

@marsiposa Thank you! I *think* we may be past the danger point now in terms of power outages. There's ice on the trees, but it's stopped raining. The weather guy said we came very close to having significant damage from the ice.

@jeridansky Thank you. I think we've dodged a bullet. There's ice on the trees, but I don't think there's going to be any more. I just saw something that made it sound like Nashville was hit really hard.

@tc_morekindness phew, good to hear you may be on the other side of the worse risk.

@tc_morekindness Yeah, I also heard Nashville got hit hard.
So far all my Mastodon friends in NC are fine, which is a relief.
