Some answers to FAQ from a life long Oklahoman
-why is everyone freaking out over the forecasted snow storm?
Our state has very little of the infrastructure needed to deal with a large amount of snow or extended cold weather.
-why are the grocery stores empty?
Everyone is scared they will be stuck at home with no power, no water, and no hope that the government will be willing to help.
-why all the milk and bread?
I honestly do not know. Me and mine have 2 weeks of shelf stable things to munch on but we have the privilege to be prepared, most of the state are unable to afford their basic needs day to day and cannot adequately prepare for things like this.
- why does your government suck?
"Rugged individualim for some, gut wrenching poverty for most." Is the motto of the GOP whom have a super majority in our legislature. They are currently actively campaigning to defund libraries, public schools, and county services because "it's not nice to make rich people pay taxes" or something.
- you seem angry.
That's not a question.
@OkieSpaceQueen That's why we have the @frenchtoast in the Boston area!

@OkieSpaceQueen maryland answered the milk/bread thing many years ago.
Whenever Baltimore TV news mentions snow, half of those assholes tell viewers to go buy milk, bread, eggs and toilet paper, and morons do.
Note that no storm here, even 2003, has ever disabled major infrastructure for more than 3 days.
I think they make toilet-paper omelettes. Or maybe french toast causes diarrhea.
But they do it every fucking time and I laugh at them. I lived through the Blizzards of 1966 and 1977 in NY.
@the_turtle @OkieSpaceQueen Milk and bread are staples that people panic-buy in the UK, too, and during lockdown we added toilet paper to the list.

@OkieSpaceQueen this is superbly well-written. We get made fun of in Georgia for shutting down for very little snow and ice. We don't use a lot of funds for snow removal. We don't have snow tires. Also, our snow is almost always mostly ice. We have very hilly terrain. No one wants to risk driving on that, especially school kids on buses on icy hilly roads in any part of a county, so they shut down the schools and all activities for that whole county.
Also, we didn't make fun of Wisconsin when they had a heat wave they were not acclimated to, and it was disastrous for them. We were saddened. We would hope for the same respect when we have severe cold.

“Why all the bread and milk?”
This isn’t an answer, but when Ireland had a major blizzard six or seven years ago the same exact thing happened.
