    The legal basis for so-called Alberta to exist on the land where it sits are Treaties 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10. All of these treaties are between the First Nations and the Crown (feds). Alberta is an administrative entity created by Canada which provides the legal framework for settlers to live on that treaty land.

    The treaties are not with Alberta, and are not Alberta's to break.

      Not that I'm some scholar on this stuff or whatever, but I've done the *very* basic reading that effectively no settler here (<1%) bothers to do

        Nor am I defending the treaties or the settler state. Land back.

        What I am saying is that there is a collective moral obligation not to allow this colonial land seizure to deepen.

          Will King Carney stick his neck out to defend the treaties? Obviously not. If he does it, it'll be for all the nonsense liberal reasons. But he does need to do it.

            @McRocker
            Treaty 10 snuck through just on its heels. But effectively yes!

              This being the law of the land will not stop it from happening. Nobody has any excuse in 2026 for believing that laws stop things from happening.

              People stop this from happening.

                Alt text: Map of Alberta showing the various treaties. Text says "Dear Alberta separatists" and under each treaty label, there is a parenthetical "not yours".

                  I have family in Alberta. Not one of them wants to be part of the USA. Not sure who’s supporting this crap.

                    @Pinchy63 @cass_m @McRocker @CedarTea Most Americans thought MAGA was a joke, but they didn't keep their eyes on all the tiny levers of government they were slowly positioning in their favor (like safe tumblers) to harness the full power of the executive. All I can say is, every election matters, make sure they're not stacking the deck, and their bluster will eventually burn out. Let them pick the locks over time, and you'll be in the same boat.
