Which servers need moderators?

@OliviaVespera I could imagine trying to moderate dice.camp but I dont think it would be fun. The idea of trying to moderate kolektiva sounds to me like the culmination of every nightmare I ever had.

@OliviaVespera I like the people who do mod kolektiva, I do not agree with every decision and sometimes I mention it but they do their best. Whenever the server says they have an opening in the team I think "I would rather be burned on a pyre."

@Montaagge it sounds like if we do nothing, we may burn. We have to find ways to offer our hand if we have experience, or if we can learn how.

@OliviaVespera yeah, I see your point. I simply made a joke about instance culture. I have been a mod for forums and facebook groups and stuff, it isnt that I dont know how to moderate online communities and there are servers I would defend if they called for my aid but the idea of wading through anarchist drama all day fills me with terror

@Montaagge I'm curious what kind of drama anarchist have these days?

@OliviaVespera so, I find that on Mastodon every 2 months or so there is a recurring argument that goes along the lines of "its transphobic to call me racist vs. Its racist to call me transphobic" and that is an argument that I want to steer well clear of every time it happens.

@Montaagge ah. it sounds like intersectionality hasn't necessarily reached that area of the fediverse.

@OliviaVespera yeah, its an open server sort of problem. There are mod teams I envy, I often think to myself "this stuff doesnt happen on jorts.horse" but also the fact that it is an intro server and its a good intro server, it is a server I have often advised people who dont use fedi to join, thats another element to why its a tough server to moderate.

The Fedizine still gets passed around, it tells random people to join kolektiva and it shows. But thats still important work its just hard. I dont think they are looking for mods right now. I doubt jorts.horse or dice.camp are either.

And so thats where I am, I have basic faith in the moderator teams on like 5 servers but when mastodon.social is understaffed it doesnt bother me because I would never imagine mastodon.social even has actual moderators.

@Montaagge @OliviaVespera .social does have moderators, I have been in contact with them, and when I find a reply that I want to report, the account is often already suspended from their server. The server is still too big to moderate though and things often slip through for a while due to the open registration.
