This is something I can't stand reading, and I see it all over the place:

"Men and boys feel like the rules are changing and nobody told them."

NOBODY FUCKING TOLD YOU? Where have you been? Because I feel like every single fucking decade we tell you that we won't be second class citizens anymore You took that as your cue to join a secret PUA forum and learn how to rape women. And now you're sad because you actively sought to harm us, and we don't think you're fucking cute anymore?

@smutmag I have 5 kids ... 3 girls and 2 boys. It's very easy to teach your boys to not be creepy assholes. Dudes are just failing their kids and continuing a historically proven piss poor trend of "ITS NOT OUR FAULT" when it is. It might help that every father figure in my life pretty much failed me in some capacity and I leaned heavily on my mom and the women in my life to guide me .. but even then, I had societal experiences that luckily I had a strong wife who helped me work through and realize the dumb shit I was carrying with me. I was able to work them out before it impacted my boys. Now we just stand on defense when their friends or people around them tell them something .. and they come and ask us about it .. and we have to explain why something is toxic, creepy, or just plain bad

Me chiming in on this convo really doesnt do much in the long term .. and if its out of place or not the right spot for a dude to respond let me know I will delete it...

I just wish we lived in a matriarchy so bad lol

@smutmag I was thinking about this recently, how lots of conservatives love to go on about the "marketplace of ideas" where the good ideas will rise to the top, and how capitalism is a place to let the best shine, but as soon as it comes to relationships, and women being freed from the shackles of not having the right to vote, own property, bank accounts, no-fault divorce, etc etc, and suddenly it's all "no we need to roll everything back, (we can't compete), this was a mistake" and yeah.

        Yeah.

Fuck that noise. Git gud. Skill issue.
Women told you what they want, and you refused to listen.

git gud is a hilarious re-use

        and not wrong neither

nb (hobbyhorse of mine) capitalism hates the free market: viz. capitalists insist on you having a "moat" to defend your business against free competition before they will lend you any of the capital

have never figured out how to say that as quickly as "git gud"

@wizardponderingorb Honestly, I think as soon as we recognize that women are people, and compete fairly with us, and respect us, and quit trying to enforce a narrative of us being inferior, most discomfort will disappear. I think the most uncomfortable thing of all has got to be living your life in a narrative that is false, and that calls on you to be abusive to prove your manhood. Let go of your "privilege" and I think mostly people will find their privilege was oppressive all along.

I think the -archy part is damaging enough that a matriarchy wouldn't be better. *Differently* cruel and power-accumulating, probably.

@smutmag if nobody told them, what exactly are they constantly pushing back against, complaining about and organising revanchist movements around?

you can't have it both ways, men and boys.

Most women I know are STILL holding out hope that maybe they'll find a guy who doesn't try and actively destroy them. We WANT you to do well. We still bite our tongues when you say ridiculous shit, like, "Men do poorly because women do well." If this is your thinking, you are just, quite simply, a piece of shit. And that's why you're lonely. And maybe you should live in that and think about it.

I hope you do. But if you think we're ever going to trust you to lead again? Fuck off.

@smutmag I'm hoping that now that women have more options and men (who want relationships with women) have to actually compete to attract a partner, that type of guy just slowly disappears. If they have to learn to treat women like people before they can have children (unless they want to adopt and be a single parent, in which case they'll probably also learn a lot from that), they're less likely to teach their sons not to treat women like people? I'm hoping?

@clew @dawgeth @smutmag that said, if we could have a matriarchy for like a week or two, that might be a good way to convince more men that equality is the way 😂 (mostly joking, idt that would actually work and it would probably lead to more women not wanting equality either)

@smutmag Maybe they learned "the rules" from popular culture? Movies and TV have some truly terrible role models for young men.
