"Trump’s highly racist and offensive late-night Truth Social post depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes broke through the numbness barrier to register on the political Richter scale at a level few of his many previous insults ever achieved."
-
"What matters to the American public, Karoline Leavitt, is the fact that the President of the United States of America is an unrepentant, unreconstructed racist who is endangering lives with his blatant racist rants. Obviously, it did matter to someone, because the post was deleted, proving that the outrage was warranted.
This is not an isolated incident, but rather a slice of a broader pattern that has become impossible to ignore."
"Donald and others in the Trump Regime have repeatedly leaned into white supremacist imagery and messaging. What was once coded is now increasingly overt.
This was not an accident. This was Donald telling us exactly who he is. And as the adage goes, when someone shows you who they are, believe them."

"The deafening silence of the Republican Party only emboldens him, pushing him toward ever more overt racism, anti-trans hatred, anti-immigrant cruelty, misogyny, and Islamophobia. Donald is the problem because he has the platform. He is the one whose rhetoric, memes, GIFs, and posts can get people killed."

"I’m sure I don’t need to tell you this, but for the benefit of press secretary Leavitt, I’m going to spell it out: Trump’s stupid memes and social media posts matter. They matter because the president helps set the parameters of acceptable discourse. They matter because his bigotry emboldens others. Most of all, they matter because they reflect his policies."

"But while Trump’s racist video should impact his presidency, it won’t, will it? This is, after all, a convicted felon and adjudicated sexual predator we are talking about. A man who appears to be successfully shrugging off his connections with Jeffrey Epstein, a child rapist. Give it a few days and nobody will remember this story. ...
It’s not just democracy that is dying in the US right now; it is common decency."

"On Air Force One yesterday Trump was asked about the video he posted of the Obamas, and whether he would apologize. Watch. No apology. Incoherent dribble. Extraordinary malevolence."

"1. It was not an accident.
2. It was not a staffer.
3. While the president may have dementia his racism is not due to dementia.
4. He isn’t sorry. He means every racist thought he shares.
5. His base agrees with him.
6. He will do it again.
7. No one in power will hold him accountable."~ Roxane Gay

"Many tens of millions of Americans not only voted twice to put this man in the White House, but also continue to support him with great fervor, underscoring the motivating power of racism and the need to scapegoat others."

"In a rare capitulation, Trump did remove the post, but he refused to apologize for posting it. Such an act—especially during the opening days of Black History Month—would be a career-ending move for a political leader of any party in a more humane era of American politics. Trump has shrugged it off, but I argue that we should register this as another bright line being crossed, one with knowable chilling implications."

"Common sense tells us that elite leaders, particularly someone hold the office of the president of the United States, influence their followers’ attitudes. Recently published research shows that Trump’s ability to degrade his white supporters’ moral sensibilities is real and measurable (h/t to Andrew Whitehead for pointing me to this research)."

@wdlindsy The fact that the best president that usa has ever had is a black man drives him out of his mind. Obama was a better man by every metric that could be measured. But at the end of the day it is just a dick measuring contest which Obama probably won as well.
