Statistically the economy seems to be improving, but only for those in higher income brackets. For one thing, those people are the only ones that count to the regime. Also, they can, and will, trumpet this endlessly, making even some of those on the lower rungs figure it must be true no matter what’s happening with them. Besides, any day now, their ship is coming in. Rinse and repeat.
