It's festered for centuries in various forms, knowing that its dominance over society was slipping away. But, instead of just dying out, it has to launch one last-ditch, desperate offensive against social progress. It can do a lot of harm, but in the end, it can't win.

Yesterday Catholic VP Vance defended the use of a five-year old boy in Minnesota as "bait" to entrap his family, and the detainment of that child by ICE.

It has just been announced that Vance has been invited to address the upcoming "March for Life" which purports to be about defending the sanctity of life and has strong support by Catholic and other Christian leaders.

I've spent my life hoping for this outcome — having come of age in the US South and having seen untold misery created by many of my fellow white citizens, almost all of them Christians, as they did all in their power to resist according rights to people of color. Though they imagine they have brought misery only on those they disdain, they've brought it on their own heads, on all of our heads — and they are unable to see what they've accomplished.
