@czarbucks exacty the same here in North TX (Frisco). 20 feels like 7 and going down to feels like -3 tomorrow morning. Lots of sleet falling and predicted to continue overnight. Just drove the kids to a hill in the neighborhood and they had fun for an hour. They’re meeting all their friends there at 8am. Lucky me, I insisted on driving my 17yo to his 6am shift at Kroger, as his car that sleeps outside will be a frozen block of (the non-fascist kind of) ice.

Monday is going to be brutal.@czarbucks Yes enough to theoretically worry about power, but somehow that is one worry in life that I seem to be immune to. LOL. Even after living through the Big Freeze of 2021 here in TX where consistent power was a problem for an entire week of single digit temps. I’m more of a “wheeeeee this is a fun adventure” kinda guy when it comes to rolling blackouts.

The area at large? I believe there are shelters open, but no one could travel these roads.
Us personally? We have a gas fireplace, so would have some heat. Food lasts about 8 hours with a battery on the fridge, freezer about as long, both so long as one doesn't open the door.
We've stockpiled water, after the Helene experience. So would be ok for several days, so long as our pipes don't freeze.

@czarbucks The precipitation is now over for us. Just got back from taking my kid to work at 6am. Roads are a ghost town, as expected. World is thick (by TX standards, ie a few inches) with fresh snow-sleet (which compacted pretty densely due to all the mixed precipitation we got). Not particularly slippery at all. The shitteth will hit the fanneth once it starts to melt and then refreezes overnight. So perhaps Monday into Tuesday.
My other kids are heading out at 9am to the hill (an embankment at their school) to go have some fun.
Good luck there with the remainder of the storm. May the power gods be smiling down on us all.
