    @Randahl Fink If I were him, I'd probably leave the US and go back to Britain.

    Not safe to live in a country that's rapidly sliding into fascism, especially if you're a foreigner who has a history of mocking government and exposing injustice.

    @hans

    You may be thinking of John Oliver. He's British. He was also a correspondent on the Daily Show and now does Last Week Tonight on HBO.

    Oliver is now a US citizen and says he loves this country, his life is here and he wants to do what he can to fight for justice.

    Stephen Colbert is from Charleston NC USA.

      Every time I watch Stephen Colbert, I think of May 21, 2026, where his last show airs from The Ed Sullivan Theater in NY.

      It ends, not because he has bad ratings, but β€” I believe β€” because CBS does not have the courage to continue to speak truth to power.

      I hope with all my heart, that Stephen Colbert finds a different path, where he can continue informing the public in the unique and entertaining way he masters so well.

      In this decisive moment in history, we need all hands on deck.

      @randahl a voice for an America we might have created in our minds! Then no! it’s the real voice of the America we believe is still possible! Fascism cannot win!

          @randahl CBS is owned by the Ellisons now. My guess is its cheaper to let his contract run out than pull the plug. It's probably going to let them avoid a Kimmel situation of mass cancellations of Paramount+

            @randahl You are preaching to the choir here! Even though Jon Stewart's monologue is relegated to once a week, I listen to both. Colbert and Stewart are the one-two punch of comedic, political commentary offering Trumpian knock-outs with every show. These guys keep me balanced and sane.

              @hans you are thinking of John Oliver. Stephen Colbert was born in Washington D.C.

                @randahl Hey, if Colbert wanted to come up this way and reboot *Ninety Minutes Live* on the CBC, I could foresee the twisting of *many* rubber arms.

                      @randahl I feel like what he wants is for a different network to take on the show, but he'll ask for them to try and negotiate for as much of the crew/location/pay-scales to stay the same as possible, and he needs to wait for the contract to end and, likely as not, ratings of similar things to tank and create a void making him look like a diamond in the rough easy for picking.

                        @randahl My fear is that he goes the Podcast/Roaming-Show route like a bunch of conservatives (rhymes with Trucker Barrel-tonne) have done... which is an option if the crew you were working with was shared with a lot of other people or were more dedicated to the company than the host... and Colbert and his show seem very... not that.
