    @MLE_online

    This would be why my old radar detectors (for speed traps) are no longer useful. Too much radar, everywhere.

        @wanderinghermit @MLE_online The last time I had a radar detector in my truck, it detected both radar and lasers.

        I remember when I got pulled over on a country road between Cimmeron and Raton, the person in my passenger seat grabbed it off of the windshield and shoved it underneath the seat because they thought that it would be illegal. (I don't think that it was.)

          @joe @wanderinghermit I'm pretty sure they are illegal in some places

            Dunno, haven't looked for a few years. Last time I did look they were trying to do some funky signal processing to discriminate between cop radar and other types of radar signals. I don't know how well that worked.

              I think that's right. In some places they've been illegal for many years (Maryland maybe?). In some states you could in theory get away with having one if you had a ham radio license, because it is technically radio equipment.

                And yes, I know that makes no sense because it would be radio *receiving* equipment, which is not generally regulated in the US.

                  @wanderinghermit @MLE_online 🤷‍♂️ I remember them saying something about there being something called a radar detector detector to find people using a radar detector. I chalked it up to them being Texan at the time. Texans can be weird.

                    Well yeah, they are. But there was a method where one could detect the mixer/IF radiation at short distances. I was never sure how well that worked because different manufacturers would use different IF frequencies.

                      @wanderinghermit @MLE_online I wonder how far the rabbit hole goes. If a radar detector detector exists, could you counter it with a radar detector detector detector?
