I've posted these before but I was appreciating them again in the early morning sunlight today.

@RussCheshire
I quilt but don't know anything about crochet. When this crocheted bedspread was handed down to me, it had broken in a few places. I took it to a yarn shop and the lady there matched the yarn and the methods and made it good as new. Magic, if you ask me.@dillyd Very dark magic. I speak as one who never mastered the ancient art of "French knitting"; that thing with a cotton bobbin, four nails and some wool. Evil forces are gathering...

Edit: they were my great great grandmas. My mother's mother's mother's mother, and my mother's father's mother's mother.
Wow, write that word enough times and it starts to look wrong. -

@RussCheshire @dillyd When I found my grandma's lace bobbins (many years after her death) I had no clue what they were.

Wow, write that word enough times and it starts to look wrong.@dillyd Wow! It's so amazing when you're able to preserve something that your ancestors made, so special

@dillyd They’re lovely! Do you know how to quilt? It’s on my bucket list to learn someday.

Wow, write that word enough times and it starts to look wrong.@dillyd They are really old, then. But, they still look beautiful.

The basic building block of getting a loop through a loop (once or more) gives an infinite world of possibilities. The hardest part is spending enough time to get regularity. I like #crochet -

Those are beautiful. I'd like to find somebody to teach me in-person. I really hate watching videos -
@dillyd Those are beautiful!
And such a great connection to your gggmas!@colo_lee you're good. Your edit appeared as I was favoriting your reply.

@dillyd
Just think of all the work that went into those! Wonderful -
@dillyd @lydiaschoch a wool shop in your neighbourhood is the first place were I would ask if they know someone. Many have a notice board. Or in a repair cafe that does textiles.
@Klara @lydiaschoch good idea, I'll look around

@dillyd both are beautiful. A lot of love went into those stitches. I've done both quilting & crochet to feel closer to ancestors
-
@dillyd there's a technical term for this but I can't remember it. (You get the same effect if you /say/ the same word too many times in a row.)
@transitionalaspect @dillyd semantic satiation.

@dillyd we put my wife's great grandmother's quilts on a cool quilt ladder next to one on display on the wall. We rotate every once in a while.

That's an excellent idea. I am running out of walls and I do have more in storage bins. -
