This is a keeper: The Guardian’s long, detailed examination of the period preceding Russia’s full-scale invasion of #Ukraine.

“Bartosz Cichocki, Poland’s ambassador in Ukraine, remained in Kyiv and a couple of hours later he was summoned to the embassy to receive a classified telegram from Warsaw. It was a curt one-paragraph text, stating that the invasion would start that night.”

“After reading the telegram several times, Cichocki went outside to get some fresh air. He saw the people of Kyiv going about their business on a winter’s evening, a jarringly normal scene given what he now knew. People were checking the playbill at a theatre across the street, and part of him wanted to run, shouting, to tell them that war was coming and there would be no more performances. Instead, he walked home quietly, his head filled with thoughts of how the world was about to change.”
