Sometimes when people justify their vote for so-and-so terrible politician they will say, "well all politicians are corrupt/lie/etc." OR when explaining why UBI or socialized medicine will never work they'll claim that people will always cheat, or be lazy, etc.

It sounds worldly and wise and it's an attractive idea because it absolves us of responsibility. You can't fight human nature, am I right?

Well I'm fed up with it. We have agency and the world does not emerge from immutable laws. Every good thing that exists does so because some person had an idea and put in the work to make it reality. Grow a fucking spine.

@intrepidhero Yeah it's a total cop out, an excuse for their irresponsibility.

The left is by no means immune to this thinking. "He'll rig the midterms" "the climate is fucked" "no one will be held accountable" are all the same thinking.

Look, I get it, despair is natural and tempting but only serves the ones trying to burn it all down. We have got to keep dreaming, imagining a better future, and working to make it happen.
