@markwyner it's awful when you have to go back month by month for 60 years (720 clicks = rsi) on a calendar, but if the date format is unfamiliar say mm/dd/yyyy instead of the more logical dd/mm/yyyy or International Standard yyyy/mm/dd, it's a bind.

Simplifying to the bone = excludes things that historically caused problem like width and height.So what's the problem then and how are the historical problems triggered by the simplification? I have access to NVDA, JAWS, and Narrator on Windows 11, VoiceOver on MacOS 15, Orca on Linux (both Arch Linux and the BT Speak), VoiceOver on iOS 26, and TalkBack on Android 16. I also have a 20-cell Braille display and a Monarch if Braille testing is important.

@bondolo I want to avoid Unicode symbols for this because they tend to be super verbose on TTS ("THIN RIGHT ARROW" would be terrible). The option of doing "path/to/file.rs:10, column 29" is appealing to me because that keeps both readable information *and* the terminal hyperlink behavior to open the file at the right line.
