well fek, I'm not going to be able to fix that nicely, this needs very specific shapes of wood that I can't seem to find for sale, and I have neither the tools nor honestly skills to replicate that. I'm going to have to find a professional for this

@WanderingHuman I think those are a type of dianthus (a genus that includes smaller "pinks" and larger but not Edmonton-hardy carnations).Yours look like the ones I have that were sold as annuals under the name "pinwheel dianthus", but which have been coming up vibrant for a few years now. Any chance it's the same situation for you? Perennials that you expected to be annuals only?

@jblue We harvest them when they are very small (therefore tender and lighter flavored, lightly stir-fried like spinach), a few at a time per vine so as not to stress the plant. I'd not heard that about September.

@brettk Oh, that's disappointing. In your defence, the Environment Canada forecast only had a low of 2°C above, when it ended up getting to 2 below!I didn't even see a "with risk of frost" warning yesterday, which is now included with tonight's forecast low of 3°C (but that's probably more about us passing a cut-off date for when frost becomes less likely & therefore worth an extra warning).

@JeniParsons well, 2 different kinds of kale, dill, basil, lettuce, okra, cucumber, Roma tomato, sunflower, pink and white meadowsweet,* hollyhock,* bittermelon, forget-me-not, blue salvia, some tall grass,* mitsuba,* begonia,** green beans, yellow summer squash, and zucchini. * from harvested seeds** from cuttingsNot all of them sprouted yet, we’ll see!
