For my 70th birthday I would like #Native #Indigenous #BIPOC visibility on #Mastodon. e.g. an Indigenous/BIPOC topic and a https://TurtleIsland.social instance listing at Join Mastodon.
This is how I torture my family (feel complimented), I always want things money can't buy.
For over 3 years now @Tzipporah and I have been trying to build a vibrant thriving Native/Indigenous community on Mastodon. It's an uphill climb but we will not give up, we will succeed. We are glued to this concept.

And to be ultra clear, when I say #Mastodon or Mastodon world, I'm talking about the Mastodon organization.The #Fediverse and the people on #Mastodon instances are amazingly great people. The org Mastodon is deep in #SystemicRacism #WhiteSupremacy
The org could easily go oops our bad, sorry and fix it pronto before it goes to the next level. But they won't even answer an email. They are a social media organization and they ignore hundreds and hundreds of boosts.

maybe we can get some people to work on editing the wikipedia page with some of these critiques? not sure that will change anything at the top but the fact that there is nothing at all on the whole page reflecting the racism problems makes me think there's an opening, and i bet they do care about how they're portrayed there

(not just bipoc, but like where are the plural servers? where are the anarchist servers? those three make up like half of fedi?)

@Yehuda @Tzipporah Happy birthday! And congratulations, I see you, you are gaining visibility, what you do is not in vain, it is getting traction.
I had very good reasons to run from twitter when it turned bad, but I do miss the diversity of voices from back when it was good. I just kept running across communities whose stories I was never told.
Tracing back why I am here now: there was this glorious cooperation between LockpickingExtreme and BeadsByBatsheva, the "be gay, do crime" lockpicking earrings. I had my earlobes pierced just to wear them one day. And it was from Batsheva that I found Tzipporah, and from there I found out about Turtle Island.
I'm here to contribute what's in my power to turn the fediverse into this magic place connecting communities again.

Hi - I’m Hannah, I’m Mastodon’s new Community Director, I joined at the end of September.
First, thank you for your work to bring Indigenous/ BIPOC communities to #Mastodon and the #SocialWeb. I want to do everything I can to support you. I promise you that we will add this listing to join mastodon as soon as possible.
We have a significant backlog on the Server Directory, but we have a plan to fix it. Over the weekend we announced a first experiment in evolving onboarding (but it will not be the only one). Simultaneously we are starting to look at how to evolve the Server Directory too, including adding more kinds of server classifications or categories which can be used for other kinds of discovery methods. We also want to move the Server Directory to a PR-based backend so it’s more manageable to keep updated, and so the community can help us do it.
I am sorry we haven’t done this yet. We are working on it, and please do not hesitate to reach out to me to check in on progress. You can email me too: hannah[@]joinmastodon.org.
