In the high-stakes domain of brain health, too many patients slip through the cracks. Warning signs recorded in doctors’ notes get lost in the bustle of daily practice. No one follows up — until it’s too late.
Artificial intelligence, at least theoretically, offers a way to automate early detection. But what physician has time to figure out how to reliably prompt a generative AI system to comb clinical notes for patients with potential cognitive problems?
A new paper by researchers at Mass General Brigham, a Boston-based health system, describes a possible solution: Using a team of AI agents — instead of humans — to design optimal queries. The fully-automated approach matched, and in some ways exceeded, the performance of queries designed by clinical specialists, the researchers reported.
