I would also like to note that ICE is not a normal government agency. In my opinion, a normal government agency should be active on social media, at least if its goal is to be a relevant network. However, there are plenty of cases where state police have arrested ICE "officers" for acting without legal basis in their states. It is therefore not a normal agency, but an organization that acts unlawfully and is only protected by state authority, bypassing the American legal system.

Do you have more info about this? I’ve never heard of this. A search of DDG finds no results of such things.

On the other hand, if you want to *send a message* to that person, then blocking might be exactly what you want to do.

For what reason? (I of course do understand the reason, I just happen to consider it not helpful). Ideally paired with reply-then-block…

@shanie @u_urban @_elena Unfortunately, this is exactly what I mean.

I really really wish people would put in just... a minimum effort on things at least... Like, in general. Most people just will not even do the bare minimum. On anything...

I'm not asking for people to nearly OCD-level dig into things every time like the way some of us *cough*me*cough* do, but they could at least do a quick general search and see what people are saying outside their bubble or something...

My partner and I regularly say, “We could be significantly less paranoid if everyone else was slightly more paranoid and security conscious.”

Blocking on Bluesky is NOT PRIVATE: it's very easy to see who is blocking any account by visiting sites that list that information.

I took a screenshot from https://clearsky.app, listing all the accounts that are blocking ICE (I pixelated avatars and usernames for privacy purposes).

The safest bet is to mute (that info is private) 😫

@_elena you know pixelating is pointless since you explain how to see the original list, don't you.

@_elena so but, what about people living outside of the US? They can happily block ICE all day long without being affected in any way, right?
What would happen if the list of accounts blocking ICE would be flooded with masses of foreign accounts? Just curious ~

              @dysamoria

I haven't created any databases. I've seen videos time and again where police officers in individual states have prohibited ICE agents from operating in their jurisdiction or arrested them and told them that they have no legal basis to act in their state. The videos went quite viral on Bluesky, but unfortunately Fediverse is always a little less up-to-date and apolitical.

@rpgwaiter @_elena Given that ICE is a bunch of shitty brown snowflakes, they do not take rejection lightly.
Will they actively follow up on the who-blocked-us list? Probably not.
Will they use it as a signal which protestor they picked off the street to be extra unfriendly to? Much more likely.

As such it's important to know what signal they can get about you. (and one of Alex Karp's companies surely will be able to give them an executive summary of who to treat extra badly) #uspol

I'm well aware that posting this info on the Fediverse seems like a pointless exercise, but it's to raise awareness and spread the word to people active in BOTH places.

I was never really active on #Bluesky and entirely stopped using it months ago but there's no point in posting this info there because I have zero reach. Or rather: 1100+ followers and 1-2 likes (at best!) and zero comments for any post. It's like I'm shadow-banned.

If you use it and enjoy it no judgement but please be safe!

@_elena Agreed. Bsky is a much less interactive experience than here on Mastodon/Fediverse. I follow a couple of authors, a few sports sites, and check general news there. But yeah, it's mostly a "read only" environment if you aren't "somebody." I will note that those two authors do read and respond to replies.

I mostly consider Bluesky an "eMuskulated" Twitter and it seems to be replacing Twitter as a place mass media and "somebodies" go to post expecting that everyone is reading along.
