    @cR0w @mttaggart @catsalad I don't disagree with you there.

    "Taking your ball and going home" while trying to mitigate shedding their maga-userbase doesn't exactly win them a lot of favors. Being "less evil than..." is such a low-bar for industry to try to climb over.

    I've been watching this new reality show "Suddenly Amish" about these people who are trying to join the Amish. While I'm not a fan of a lot of their beliefs and social order...

    "Chop wood and hang out on a porch" kind of sounds nice...

    @jackryder @mttaggart @catsalad I think a lot of us are trying to work towards that lifestyle.

          @cR0w @mttaggart @catsalad I'm in.

          I don't really know much about the outside. But I used to? I've read a lot about it and have watched some shows. I got really busy around 199*...

          I miss dusk.

            @cR0w @jackryder @mttaggart @catsalad there's an off the grid video years ago that I still watch occasionally. A snowboarder bought mountain property and built a small cabin on it then somehow got a ski lift out there and if I could just do that I'd be sooooo happy.

                  @jackryder @mttaggart @catsalad I don't remember them being harassed. I remember the CEO backing Trump, people here going "WTF?!" and then the doubled-down before leaving. There wasn't an explanation at the time. They handled it poorly enough that it made me concerned about how thin-skinned they are as an org and whether anyone can actually trust them against any kind of leverage.

                  @cR0w @jackryder @mttaggart @catsalad it also revealed a fundamental and irredeemable level of both dishonestly and disingenuous and gaslighting behavior. They ran around screaming that "our CEO doesn't represent us."

                  That's literally the job of the CEO. The guy who founded the company. The guy who is still the CEO of the company.

                  Yen (who is still CEO) represents the organization and sets the tone and agenda for the organization. It's his job. Claiming otherwise is lying and gaslighting.

                    This is the video, not sure he lives out there full time but I would. The whole video was interesting but that last few mins are my favorite part.

                      @cR0w @jackryder @mttaggart @catsalad and make no mistake, Andy Yen is very much still in charge. He is the head of the board of trustees and still a supporter of fascism.

                      Why is Proton all in on LLM fashtech? Prof. Carissa Veliz, a philosophy PhD who got one-shot by a chatbot. And is now part of the "Institute for Ethics in AI."

                      But of course, that's not their story. For any of it. Instead, they gaslight and outright lie.

                      Nevermind there being no political "neutrality" under Nazism.

                        @rootwyrm @jackryder @mttaggart @catsalad Agreed, but I also understand where individual people would want to separate themselves from his comments. He represents the org but it seemed like they were conflating that with representing them as humans.

                          @cR0w @jackryder @mttaggart @catsalad it's classic corporate gaslighting that rarely shows it's face outside of authoritarianism.
                          "Oh, those are his personal views and not those of the company! He doesn't represent the people! He's just in charge of them and directing their work. But we're totally 'neutral.' Honest."
