It's so hard to figure out which scientific claims really hold up to scrutiny.

For decades, a corner of the biology community has divined the truth by way of blind challenges. Now, a group of those organizers, including CASP of Alphafold fame, is turning its attention to the vagaries of the scientific literature, with a little help β€” they hope β€” from AI:

@brittanytrang Ah, the search for certainty.... πŸ˜† I am amused that they are trying to use massive stochastic systems, to address a combination of probabilistic, conceptual, and systemic problems. But good luck!

Yes! I need to get paid for my work so I can eat!

But STAT is running a 50% off sale through tomorrow: https://marketing.statnews.com/stat-plus-march26

Or we have discounts for health care workers, academics, students, etc too: https://www.statnews.com/stat-subscription-discounts-students-educators-healthcare-workers/

@chiasm If you give it a read, you'll see that these are the last people on earth who would simply throw AI at a problem and say it'll fix it -- they've made it their business to disprove people's inflated claims since the '90s. Their strategy is actually pretty interesting and a decent use of AI.

@brittanytrang no I did read it! I'm amused at a deeper conceptual level. I'm sure they'll come up with something, that will work for some problems in some areas.

@chiasm Yes, that's the tough part. In theory, AI can solve a lot of problems, but in reality...it's something else!

                Thanks for reading!
