Link at end but Now that we officially have quote posts, now can we make it easier for instance administrators to increase their character limits? I have a selfish reason why but I sincerely promise you, if you make it easier to configure things, more people will want to actually make an instance and or a community. Now for my selfish reason as to why I want this so badly.
I can’t express how much I absolutely loath a 500 character limit or less mastodon thread with like 40 post parts in the thread. Can the Mastodon developers just make increasing the character limit easier?
You can even defederate instances like mine that allow for a much larger character limit, if you hate long character instances if you want. Just for all the Gods, but you can’t legitimately sit there and tell me that reading a 50 part post thread with a 500 character limit, broken up into 20 or more parts is a great reading experience.
I’m constantly thinking, this multipart thread could’ve been a blog post. I’m the kind of person that will sit in will read a lengthy blog post with an estimated reading time of nine hours in one go, but I can’t stand short Mastodon posts broken up into 20 or more posts. @WeirdWriter it's certainly a great opportunity for Mastodon's new management to show that they're taking a different direction!

I suppose, it's because Mastodon defines itself as a "MICROblogging" service, hence the char limit to just 500 chars (or 1000 on some instances).
They would have to redefinee their chore/brand, if they allowed for higher limits.
I fully agree that instead using multi-threaded posts to ask the instance admins if they could increase the limit - or just switch instances entirely. -

As Mastodon and most other Fediverse-software are federating, of course Mastodon should show the full text of every federated instance.
