@Natasha_Jay I'm glad my country is part of the EU because of things like this. Because we have a lot of voices here calling against many human rights related stuff and without the EU, some laws would probably be much worse than already are. We even still don't have equal marriage, just "partnership". And the lies and awful things our current government representatives are able to say about queer folks, it both hurts and fills me with rage.

Now waiting for EU to also crack down on social media platforms censoring LGBT voices, regardless if it's masking it as "adult content" or just forcing it out in other ways

Oh, and perhaps forcing countries to have a maximum evaluation period before giving HRT so it doesn't take literal years.

Absolutely force the backward countries (cough visegrad group, or at least CZ, SK, HU, since poland somehow is a bit better with it) to adopt better legislation for trans people, but legal status is just one thing trans people struggle with

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy the EU seems to be the least shitty big player, and that at least they're not ignoring the topic completely, but I have a feeling, and I'm hoping I'm wrong, that there'll be a few platitudes said, maybe a report or two, and nothing will actually change for the better

We see women clapping. Would I be mistaken, if I suspect that there was more women among those who voted for, and more (cis) men among those who voted against?

It's not a secret that the far-right really wanted Brexit to happen. And I do count a big chunk of Tories as part of the far right (the rest of them and much of Labour being the regular kind of right wing).

A big chunk of the reason was human rights.

EU is awful in its own ways, but it's relatively less awful than much of the Western world.

I fully support equal rights. I do not support the fallacy that males are females and females are males. Your arguments have no more weight than the pastors who want to tell me which god to believe in. The truth of watching a male beat up a female is self-evident. I'm sorry you think you were born in the wrong body but forcing your fallacy on me by law is no less authoritarian than the idea of the christian nation.

@oddtail "relatively less awful", well said. Thank you.

@Natasha_Jay Is this just about women or does it also recognize trans men and non-binary people? Why would women be separated out like this?

@PedestrianError @Natasha_Jay Honestly if I had to wager why the focus is on trans women it may come down to trans women's participation in society itself is often what people are trying to fight against so letting people reject their identities is more visibly genocidal.

I say visibly because trans men (on average) deal with more medical discrimination which is obviously also extremely genocidal just in a more eugenics leaning manner...

@PedestrianError @Natasha_Jay Also for non binary that's a whole extra discussion because it wouldn't surprise me if their lack of inclusion is intentional erasure. Cic people that are otherwise pretty progressive still often treat NB genders as more of an aesthetic than an actual identity that gets discriminated against both on a medical and a broader social level.
