@randahl It is ridiculous and shameful. As a citizen of the U.S., I am appalled and more sorry than I can say. @mastodonmigration

@randahl @mastodonmigration What @heidilifeldman said. I’m a Boomer, born and raised in the post-WWII era. When I was a kid, Hitler and Tojo were fresh in people’s memory, and so civics, aimed at inculcating the tenets of democracy in kids, was a core part of education. In recent decades, um, not so much. In fact, it’s not prominent or nonexistent in most educational standards. We’re now suffering the consequences. It’s just awful.

We both fought fascism in World War 2, we both have a constitution which defines a liberal democracy, and in both countries the greatest threat to that liberal democracy is Donald Trump.

      🤷🏻‍♂️

@randahl @phloggen It’s extra surreal as a Dane living in the U.S. Maybe it’s time to go home 😅

@randahl Most Americans would rather forget that the Nazis held a huge rally in NY Madison Square Garden in 1939, and that there were several Nazi-oriented summer youth camps in Wisconsin - actually, across several states! - before we joined WW2.

The cynic in me wants to point out that the US joined the war to fight the Japanese, not Nazis.

@philip “den dag røde russerne kommer, og det gør de jo nok en dag” is suddenly an outdated lyric. @phloggen

@atzanteol True, but within a few days of Dec. 7th and the declaration of war against Japan, they did declare war against the rest of the Axis. And did devote the majority of the war effort to Europe.

The day the Red Russians come, and they probably will one day

Can it be made to rhyme with MAGA?

@randahl it's absolutely blowing my mind that they would even try this. It's an attack on the EU and it's a direct call to war. Trump really is deranged.

Because the billionaires who bankrolled total GOP control, the federal government always hated any form of international cooperation which the extremist nut jobs in America have always seen as a communist plot. The guys from Silicon Valley want to exit nation states and set up their fantasy libertarian utopia where they rule as God kings with absolute power. They don’t like the modern state either and wanna go back to personal fiefdoms of the super rich.

@Steve @GhostOnTheHalfShell @randahl for the USA it's already a despotism the way Trump is behaving. He says jump and his pet agents say how high. It's not going to be long though before he says jump and one of his "close advisers" accidentally pushes him off a balcony.

Yes, it seems to be a hazard of some nations that people in power fall from height to their doom
