Less than a week into the Gorton & Denton buy-election campaign & Reform UIK Ltd (the business masquerading as a political party) are being investigated by the police for failing to disclose that a letter sent to voters was paid for by Reform.

As usual Reform are trying to blame others (this time claiming it was their printer who failed to include the legally required notice of funding), but we can be confident there's dodginess more to come.

@ChrisMayLA6 Even if it was the printer that stuffed up, it’s on them for not checking it and distributing it.

@ChrisMayLA6 even in the unlikely event it was the printer’s error, that’s irrelevant. Conform UK’s election agent is legally responsible for compliance

But of course, it was as likely deliberate as not. Their “concerned neighbour” letter will have landed with some voters as genuine, rather than election literature and when they are fined or reprimanded, they can play the victim and claim they’re being silenced by the metropolitan elite

      Classic Trump

The other candidates should ask Reform to produce Patricia! Let her tell us the "truth"!

@Simon318ppm @ChrisMayLA6 I know it's an autocarrot error, but "Conform UK" is an *amazing* name for that crowd of reactionary chancers.

Of COURSE this was intentional from Deform UK!
They will have weighed the costs/benefits of breaking the law v. the political advantages (+ the media polemic: "no such thing as bad publicity", that they can also massage to their advantage).
          Yes, classic Trump.
The adequate sanction here should be disqualification, even though they'll claim bias etc. ad nauseam. Rules are rules.

I think printers printing election material know well-enough what is required, and where advice might be sought.

              Is the printer linked?

@ChrisMayLA6 In Caerphilly, they included the disclaimer, but someone ineligible outside the constituency wrote the letter. They tried to brush that off.
Now, in Gorton, it’s blame the printer and try to brush that off again.

                - The Electoral Commission need to start fining parties the maximum possible for a first offence.

                - I don’t believe this letter was written by whoever they claim; compare it to the other letters and doorstep the supposed author until some truth comes out.
