Meet Malik El Arab Al-Zubeyda. Yes, that's his actual name. We adopted him, so no, we didn't choose it.

Malik is a Saluki: technically a dog, functionally a cat. 23 hours a day draped across the sofa. Silent. Elegant. Deeply uninterested in your commands.

On his walk he transforms into a long-range missile. Off lead, it's mostly fine. But the moment he spots a hare, a wild boar, or a field full of bulls, you stop existing.

    Very loving. We adore him.

@ticho You've done the translation! It's actually Zubeyda (I misspelled it 🫣) which means cream or the finest. So he's basically "The Arab King of the Finest." He came with that name when we adopted him and we didn't dare downgrade him. He lives up to every syllable. Apart from the obedience issue. A dog who behaves like royalty but answers to no one 😆

@sophiekaz I'm currently learning Arabic language and enjoying it immensely, so it came automatically while I was reading your post. 🙂

@ticho that's so cool! Part of my family is Lebanese Armenian so I'm somewhat familiar with the sounds of Arabic though cannot speak it. I've always loved the way it sounds.
