I have a friend who used to work as a pharmacy tech and some of the stories he shared with me really underscored the importance of checks and balances.

I think my favorite was where he got an order to fill, something IV as I recall. So he gets the order and looks at it and it just looked wrong to him. I'm guessing whatever the order was, it was common enough that it stood out as weird.

So he goes over to the pharmacist with the order, the pharmacist looks at it and then says, "Hang on, let me call up there." So pharmacist picks up the phone, waits for someone to answer.

"Hey, this is such and such in the pharmacy calling to see if we can come see your thirty four thousand pound patient."
    "I'm sorry, what?"
"Your 34,000 pound patient...we've never seen a patient who weighs 17 tons and you know...curious about how that works."
"No I heard you, I just don't know what you're talking about."
    "Ah sorry...they're a Mister Smith I believe?"
"Yeah but they're not 17 tons."
    "Well that's not possible..."
    "Why is that?"
"Well, the dose for this medicine you just sent down? That would be the correct dose for someone who is thirty four thousand pounds and if they're not...well...this dose would kill anyone who weighs less than that."

Cursing noises are heard follow by the phone being hung up. A new order was sent down shortly.

I laugh...probably because I've been in the hospital too many times and I've seen how everyone is spread so thin, so for me at least it just seems obvious that with so little staffing, mistakes are going to get made. But it's also why checks and balances are so crucial right?

I guess if you're foolish you see checks and balances as nothing but bureaucracy and red tape but otherwise, you realize they're supposed to be you having another person, or even group of people, checking your work to make sure you don't do anything so cataclysmically stupid that it has a deleterious impact on other people and their ability to continue to live.

Anyway, this is about #trump and his cronies being idiots, in case you weren't picking up on that.

I guess our checks and balances were never designed with "What if we elect someone who really likes fascism, idolizes Hitler, and 98% of the people in a position to stop that person decided not to do so because they like money too much" because damn...those checks and balances did pretty much fuck all after the Supreme Court said that the president has the right to do whatever the fuck they want and it's not illegal.
