Oh for the love of pete. I let Windows 11 install its security updates on my personal laptop. It sat at "downloading 5%" for ages and then jumped to 99%. The screen went black (reboot/shutdown/not sure?), the LED on the power button is pulsing and the fan is spinning like a 747. Do I assume it's dead and hold the power button for 10s or do I leave it? Aaaargh!

I hate #microsoft #windows with a passion, but I need to keep it around for family use. #tech #wtf

I used the magic trick of CTRL-ALT-WIN-B and this fixed the black screen, showing the desktop and I could see that it really was installing updates. Stupid windows! #tech #microsoft #windows
