"Make your bed"?
"MAKE YOUR BED"!?
We're *opening* the first episode of the regular series, the one that introduces us to the format, with JORDAN FUCKING PETERSON QUOTES.
*And* #Starfleet has a "war academy." That's just pissing on Roddenberry's grave. (Of course, he was a sex pest, so...)
I wrote a paper last year on the "liberal limits" of #StarTrek. These are the limits.

Apparently, I'm live(ish)-posting my watching experience, so here we go:
I get that how different alien races are depicted will change from one generation of #StarTrek to the next, like the #Klingons' foreheads, and I'm 100% supportive of more deaf/sign representation, but it doesn't make sense for #Betazoids to speak in sign to each other. They're telepaths. If anything, they'd have no language of their own at all. Odd choice.

I'm perhaps maybe *okay* with all #Betazoids being empaths. Troi was an empath because her father was human, but as a narrative device, being empathic rather than telepathic is way more interesting.

@OrionKidder I'm pretty sure the president is deaf - the actor is, in any case.
Troi did once scold her mother for not using spoken language in the presence of non-telepaths.
"Mother, we're among non-telepaths. It's impolite not to speak aloud."
