"Apple [UI design] took on an impossible task… And even if the premise was solid, I still wish I could say: they did the best they could, given the goal. But that’s not true either: they did a poor job consistently applying the metaphors and designing the icons themselves.”

Yup. Tahoe's redesign, perfectly summarized: self-inflicted problems, executed poorly, contradicting their own stated principles.

Good riddance to its DRI. Fingers crossed for a better macOS 27.

@marcoarment Great article! However, the falling snowflakes probably just sucked up over 15% of my iPads battery. Now that I’ve finally closed the window I can already feel my iPad cooling down again.

@fadersolo Too late for you reading this particular article, but if the author posts a follow-up, there’s a little snowflake icon at the top that kills the snow. I didn’t think it worked at first because the snow takes a bit of time to fade out, but it does stop eventually. Of course then the background is a very bright yellow has its own potential readability issues. Reader view solves both issues if you are in Safari.

@marcoarment Same, let’s just hope Apple doesn’t decide block security updates for previous OS’s like they’ve done on iOS.
