I’m still very much in the beginning, in Balmora doing Fighters’ Guild stuff since that’s what the shirtless guy wanted me to do. I just slew two egg poachers in a cave.I did explore a random cave in the first town, for the hell of it and managed not to die

You can’t tell but I’m playing as a Dunmer, as always. Why change it now when I already played Oblivion and Skyrim as a dark elf?
It will still take some getting used to how you interact with characters. And apprently there are no quest markers? At least at the moment I can’t choose which area of the map I want to go, I have to read directions from my journal.
Which on the other hand is an interesting way to play, having to figure out for myself which way to go to get where I need to be. -

or rather THR’s, there are a bunch of -threns and -thrans now. -
Also, this game seems to really like putting Y’s and TH’s into people’s names
or rather THR’s, there are a bunch of -threns and -thrans now.I need to figure out how to level up quicker. I did figure out that it seems to need gaining points/levels of the skills, like in Oblivion, but I am still only level one. And I’m supposed to do a thing for the Fighters’ Guild by taking out four Thieves’ Guild members by an ebony mine near Caldera. The lookout was fairly easy to take down, despite requiring some sleep to regain health, but the other three gang up on me and I keep dying. So that tells me I need to increase at least my blade or blunt weapon and blocking skills.
I returned to Balmora to heal because Caldera doesn’t have an inn. And to see if there’s something else I could do.I really want to get into this game and figure it out.

@quester Here's a wiki article on it.

I never had the patience for Morrowind unmodified. Too many attacks would miss. Too many cliff racers.

I will admit that I am taking some guidance from a walkthrough, just a bit. Like I needed to figure out what to do about the ebony thieves who kept fighting me three to one. I did meet Hlormar Wine-Sot along the way and he started to follow me. But I could not figure out where to find the witch, as I kept going the wrong way. I managed to lose him on my way back to Balmora, and found the witch a bit later. But I have retraced my steps at least three times and no sign of Hlormar.
So I still have his axe. Which helped me take care of the thieves at long last.
I also figured out you can’t sell stuff to people you stole the things from
I found some alchemy stuff at the Caldera Mages’ Guild, all unattended. The second I tried to sell them to their trader, I got attacked. So yeah, need to bring stuff to other places.
Fighters’ Guild don’t like if you put stuff in a crate and then try to take it back, same thing happens. -

Now it’s starting to feel a bit more like what I expected. I’m at a Dwemer ruin and they seem to have looked quite the same even as early on as this game.
Of course they’re more elaborate in Skyrim, but now I absolutely am starting to feel like I’m playing a game set in Tamriel. Excellent. -
