        UNSC: Jeffrey Sachs: (invited speaker).

The issue before the council today is NOT the character of the government of Venezuela, , the issue is whether any member state , by force, coersion, or economic strangulation has the right to determine Venezuela's political future or to exercise control over its affairs.

Goaes against Article 2 of the Un Chater.

The USA has attempted 70 regime changes operations between 1947 and 1989 and continued.

Columbia is the country who requested this emergency Security Council meeting, supported by China and Russia for supporting the holding of this meeting.

This was Columbia's first appearance at Security Council and their first task was to initiate emergency meeting !

Columbia condemns categorically what happened on Jan 3rd.

No war against Venezuela, we are not occupying a country, this was a law enforcement operation.

Calls Maduro a fugitive escaping US law.

Lack of respect. US Ambassador to UN leaves security council after his speech instead of listening to others. Puts in stand-in in his place.

Starts with need to respect of the charter, rules based international order. Natural resources of a country are part of the country's sovereignty. Spain did not recognize Maduro and helped shelter opposition members. But rule of law must prevail.

Personal thought: Whether maduro was considered legit head of state or not, he is a citizen of Venezuela, and USA has no right to kidnap any citizen in another country , there are legal processes such as extradiction for this. (obviously, Venezuela would reject extradiction.

Venezuela played an important argument: A country's head of state must be deemd to be immune from charges. (Something Trump has fought for and won in the USA).
