A month ago there was a lot of buzz on the Fediverse about a new Mastodon server set up by prominent journalists: #TheForkiverse.
There was a rush of sign-ups: nearly 10,000 users in a couple of weeks. People new to the Fediverse, willing to try it out.
It's been hard to gauge how active it still is... so this morning I re-downloaded @IceCubesApp so I could browse their local timeline.
I've been liking and replying to recent posts. Just doing my little in making them feel seen and welcome

@_elena@mastodon.social @IceCubesApp@mastodon.online I've been also browsing there local timeline with moshidon for some time now, atmosphere on there is a little different than ours

@Stomata indeed - I've been liking a lot of posts and replying to everything... except people praising AI tools, because I just can't

Thats so great to hear!
I'd love to learn more about it too.
You mentioned that nearly 10,000 users joined in a couple of weeks thats amazing!
Were they all journalists, or was it a mix of journalists and people from the Fediverse who wanted to be part of a community started by them?Im really curious how it's grown since then.
Thanks for doing your part to make them feel welcome!

@Stomata if you listen to the podcast announcing this experiment, they used LLMs to get advice about how to actually set up a Mastodon server... so I'm not surprised

@abbas_dp it's all regular people who love the Hard Fork podcast (by Kevin and Casey) and PJ's Search Engine.
Stats aren't entire accurate, but here they are: https://fedidb.com/servers/theforkiverse.com

@_elena @IceCubesApp As my first real home in the Fediverse I've found it pretty great. Shared love of podcasts makes it easy to start conversations
