Anyone know how to remove this “AI” menu option on Firefox?

When I have no windows open, there's a “new AI window” option in the “File” menu, but it disappears after I open a new window. I would prefer the menu option to never show up.

I set “browser.ml.chat.enabled” to “false” in “about:config” when I heard that would increase performance, and I have all the “AI” features I could find in the settings menu disabled. I'm on macOS 15.7.3, and Firefox 147.0.2.

@reillypascal - Thanks for the heads-up! This exactly why I love this slice of the internet. I just get cool tip & tricks like this.

@Reilly Spitzfaden (they/them) @Firefox for Web Developers have announced to make it simple. Anyhow, just iuse Librewolf instead and they're gone already.

@jrp I tried LibreWolf and mostly liked it, but I couldn't get it to work with Netflix. While I agree Netflix is problematic, and I do collect DVDs, sometimes there are things I want to watch that are only on Netflix and not available on DVD.

@jrp definitely looking forward to these features: https://blog.mozilla.org/en/firefox/ai-controls/ — thanks for the pointer to that account!

edit: spoke too soon, it reappeared 😭

@reillypascal I poked around the Firefox source, it looks like setting these to (or creating them as) false disables it:

              browser.smartwindow.enabled
              browser.smartwindow.preferences.enabled

@kitkatwastaken oh no! I saw from another reply thread that there's supposed to be an "AI kill switch" in v148.0, so I'm looking forward to that at least.

@Reilly Spitzfaden (they/them) Well DRM is cut off and that's a good idea. To me this asks more questions about Netflix than LW

@jrp I agree with all this on principle, but I just don't think that being absolutist about my principles is worth not watching the things I want to watch.

Or try #waterfox. It's a little less aggressive that #librewolf.
