So what's the closest I can get to that? My ideal would would be to do "make ; make install" and have a new version of everything installed, although I mostly only care about the kernel and basic POSIX utilities (sh, stty, cat, mail, etc.).

      @kithrup The #FreeBSD handbook is a great resource for starting with anything FreeBSD: https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/developers-handbook/kernelbuild/
