Thanks @markgrieveson for leading me to the rabbit hole of reading through r/ndp. I don't venture into Reddit very often these days.
I saw this to add to the collection of federal party reactions to the attack on Venezuela and hadn't seen anybody else post it here (maybe I missed it).

@zazzoo @markgrieveson I suppose it is appropriate for the NDP to criticize Carney on this, but Carney is still in an unenviable position of trying to manage our significant trade with the US. Laughably, the *Official* Opposition will complain that Carney didn't give Trump *support*.

@dan613 @markgrieveson It's not a pretty decision but I feel the rules based order and our independence beats out trade concerns in terms of priority.
And yes, I realize that puts me in the same mindset as Venezuela and Cuba, both of whom have endured many years of hardship at the hands of US embargoes in defense of their own national sovereignty.

@zazzoo @markgrieveson Trump could make our lives horrible in a second, despite the long term consequences. What happens if he shuts down Visa and Mastercard and Paypal? Also, we don't know what is happening diplomatically. No doubt every foreign affairs official in the western world is on the phone with their counterparts, including American. Carney isn't a fool.

@dan613 @markgrieveson I mean I see your point, but there are many red lines along the way where fear of reprisal turns into self-censorship, where it becomes appeasement, becomes compliance, becomes collusion.
That's what they already achieved with the US media landscape. That's what the US is trying to achieve with Rodriguez.
What's even the point of sovereignty if you actively control yourself to align with them against your own best interests, without even being asked?
