Everything is so awful. Here's a contrary brick I saw in a wall. It intrigued me and made me smile.

@CiaraNi I believe that too! Such a wonderfully defiant stone 🥰
-
@CiaraNi In my case you are 100% correct in thinking I would be taking that photo too. 🤩

The building is nice, but nothing compared to mysteriously mismatched masonry.

@tanyakaroli It did seem to be a very Fediversey photo subject - a picture of a wall instead of a world-famous landmark. And yes a 'defiant' stone - that's the right word!

@donray Yes, that's what I thought!

@CiaraNi The dancing tree behind the wall [Plane, I think from its dangling seedpods] is photo-bombing this

@CiaraNi Thank you, Ciara, for the intriguing photo and delightfully human commentary at a time when so much in the world seems depressingly wrong. I enjoy following your toots.

@wavesculptor Everything about this makes me happy. The idea of the tree 'dancing'. The fact that a random stone in a wall outdid Parliament Buildings, but then a random tree outdid the stone - a very Fediversey hierarchy. And best of all - you recognised the bare tree from its seedpods!

@CiaraNi Laughing. I had no idea where this was -- assumed you were a LOT further North. That would definitely be a London Plane then.
Brick probably dates from Austere Times too, when tradesperson didn't have mandate to go find a bit of flint or whatever the rock, no doubt abundant but outside the built environment. Walls are also repaired like this is they were destined to be render-skinned. I've uncovered some in little reno jobs.
-
@CiaraNi I think your assessment is entirely correct!

@CiaraNi @ColesStreetPothole There must be a story there.
