    A bunch of us are working on persuading the Green Party (of England and Wales) and other prominent individuals therein to stop all use of X.

    I’ve been adding that we should also establish a proper presence here - which may be a harder sell.

    @samsterby

    At more than 1000 child sexual assault images made a hour on twitter/shitter/xitter/X it's getting HARD to NOT "accidentally" get child porn in your temp files. Says Europe. Twitter child porn is found on the 'dark web'

      @kevinrns indeed. The correct term is CSAM btw, calling it porn implies that it’s acceptable. https://learning.nspcc.org.uk/news/why-language-matters/child-sexual-abuse-material

            More organisations probably need to adopt the POSSE approach of syndicating from a website onto social media platforms rather than dealing with them piecemeal. Yeah cut out X, but you still probably want to do Bluesky, Mastodon and some others. I guess you need a techie to set this up but overall it looks like lower maintenance.

              @kbm0 yeah, I had a crack at setting up POSSE for myself (web->here+Bsky) a while back and realised we need better tooling, that works for both individuals and organisations.

              I don’t know if that has changed since I tried, but it’s very tempting as a project.

                  I think the simple thing is the people that might be swayed to vote green, aren't on X any more, and those left will never consider voting green, so it's really a waste of time and effort (and money if it's paid adverts) using it!

                  And it makes a statement on the moral position of the party, and on the others that continue to use it.

                  "the people that might be swayed to vote green, aren't on X any more"

                  I'm not convinced that's necessarily true.

                  It's easy to think that everyone's noticed by now what's going on over there, and would've shut their account if they don't agree. But most people aren't in the same social media landscape as we are, or seeing the same info as we are. Most people on Fedi are way more tuned in to the nuances of social media than the average person not here.

                  I think there might be a lot of people still on Twitter/X who perhaps haven't been paying attention to the commentary about it, or haven't got around to moving, or stay because of particular people they only see there.

                  For example I can easily imagine someone who mostly uses LinkedIn, but still has a Twitter account they don't use so often, from back when it was a professional asset.

                  That's not meant as a reason for the Green Party to stay! Just a reflection on how I think things actually are right now.

                    Fair comments - perhaps I should have said "those active on Twitter"? If you're right and there's still a substantial number of potential green voters there then it's a question of does the benefit outweigh the cost (moral or financial). I still say no to that.

                      Yes, I agree. And, if we're shooting for the stars, maybe the Green Party could emulate Vivaldi or the Forkiverse, and instigate its own Fedi server for members to join 🙂

                        @samsterby @kbm0 WordPress has an ActivityPub plugin; adding that to greenparty.org.uk may be a very quick win.
