In the Lord of the Rings (if you’ve not read the books, most have at least seen the films) the Palantir seeing stones are used by Sauron to spy on others and to sow confusion, apathy and fear in those countries. Which seems to be exactly what the software of wacko billionaire Thiel aimes to do in real life.
