          US citizen here. Why would anyone from outside this fucked up country run by a racist, fascist, government, knowing that there is a very real possibility of this happening, come here for any reason?

          @EricMartin @GossiTheDog

          Over the past couple of hundred years we, Europeans, have persuaded a lot of our own idiots to seek happiness in USA. But not all of them could afford the trip back then!

          Their children and grand children, and so on (those we're still trying to clean out of our gene pool) are still happily visiting the promised land for vacation!

          On a side note:
          We don't really mind you keeping them there for a while. I mean, if your REALLY feel like you need to lock someone up...

                @GossiTheDog I think folk planning on going to support their football teams during the World Cup beginning in June should think hard about whether it is worth the risk. It isn't an easy choice, especially as a Scotland fan, because we don't get to go to the World Cup very often these days.

                      @EricMartin @GossiTheDog I guess it's for the same reason that over a third of Americans didn't vote - the belief that they personally won't be affected.

                              @GossiTheDog I'm astonished about the husband. Travelled to the US with an expired work permit and threw in a few international border crossings just for fun?

                              @publictorsten Youโ€™re astonished that a British man with a British passport was traveling? He wasnโ€™t expecting to re-enter the US, itโ€™s absurd that after being forced to because of Canadian customs he is then incarcerated in the US when he was literally TRYING to leave it.

                                          @slyborg You've added some details to the story there.

                                          It's possible to leave the US this way, but your car rental company has to do some paper work beforehand. Since this was not the case, he could not enter Canada with his car. Why would that be so? The most plausible explanation: He did want to re-enter the US.
